The fourth patch of the MapleStory Nova update has been released! It contains the new Lef race magician job, Illium, the Wings of Brilliance as well as the new Maple Achievements system.

There’s only one patch left, which hasn’t been named yet. However, it will contain Moras, the 5th area of Arcane River!

The MapleStory Nova update is split over 5 patches:

    • June 22: Splash
    • July 6: Chain of Liberation, Cadena
    • July 20: History, Another Story
    • August 10: Illium, the Wings of Brilliance
    • August 31: ?

Here is the Maple Update Info Centre video for this patch.

Here’s the promotional video for Illium.

They also released a skill showcase video!

New Job: Illium, The Wings of Brilliance

    Backstory

Hundreds of years ago, the Lef race with their natural magic wings used powerful magic to create a brilliant civilization. They were divided into two groups when the High Lefs wanted to conquer all other races in Grandis while the Wooden Lefs wanted to coexist, leading to a civil war. After the war, the narrowly surviving Wooden Lefs hid themselves in the deepest part of Grandis.

Illium is a descendant of those surviving Wooden Lefs. He had genius talent when working with machines but did not possess the innate magic abilities of the Lef race. However, in a crisis, he used the ancient Crystal which was hidden in the town to gain magical abilities. Knowing that the ancient Crystal is the only hope to bring salvation to the Wooden Lefs, Illium adventures to Maple World to find the Ancient God’s Sanctuary, while avoiding enemies of the Crystal, to save the Wooden Lef race.

Illium’s ancient Crystal resonates with magic abilities to deal massive damage to enemies and enhance allies. When the Crystal is filled with magic, Illium absorbs it and for a short time, can fly freely and use powerful skills. Illium, who can work well with machines, also gets help from his mechanical creations.

NOTE: Nexon has commissioned an artist to draw a webtoon called Grandis – The Ancient War –, similar to the ones for Orca/Suu, Demian, and Zero. You can read a translated version at this blog!

    Additional Information

Illium is part of the Lef race. This means he does not share his Cash Shop storage with any other characters.

When creating Illium, you have a choice between male and female. They both have the Lef Formal Hair and Illium Face. The only thing you can change is the hair colour.

NOTE: The hair you see here will not be used in-game until after you complete the 2nd job advancement. If you change your hair before that point, then when you do complete your 2nd job advancement, you will not receive the hair.

    [IMG] [IMG]
Illium’s beginning town Asylum has been added.

    • Asylum is the town where the surviving Wooden Lef hid themselves away. It is connected to Savage Terminal through the Crystal Gate, created by the Wooden Lef’s special techniques.
    • Illium learns to control his magic abilities in the Crystal Academia in Asylum.
    • Asylum is hidden to avoid the pursuit of the High Lef race, so characters other than Illium cannot go there.

There’s a bunch of illustrations for these NPCs as well.

The tutorial for Illium is very short. However, you must continue to do quests in Asylum until level 30, which is when you advance to 2nd job and go to Grandis, then Maple World.

This is the end of the Illium story line (I think). I added subtitles as well for those of you interested!

    Maple Achievement Points and Rank

By completing Maple Achievements, you’ll receive Achievement Points. Achievements can give 10/20/30/40/100 points based on their difficulty.

Based on your total number of points, you will climb through various Achievement Ranks.

    • Bronze: 10 ~ 4,999 points
    • Silver: 5,000 ~ 19,999 points
    • Gold: 20,000 ~ 29,999 points
    • Platinum: 30,000 ~ 35,999 points
    • Diamond: 36,000 ~ points

In addition, every Monday, an All Worlds Ranking will be created based on everyone’s Achievement Points. The top 100 Maple IDs on the ranking will be promoted to Master rank.

    Insignia

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Insignia are rewards that can be earned by reaching certain Achievement Ranks or by completing special achievements.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
In the Achievements UI, you can choose which Insignia you would like to use. You can then use the [IMG] Insignia skill to show off your selected Insignia to other users.

    List of Achievements

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
There’s a lot. Almost every single one also has a punny name in Korean. Like the one for defeating Normal Demian in a party of 4 with no deaths is called “Sorry for No Deaths” but in Korean, it’s 노데스인데 미안, which is pronounced “no death inde mian”, so the last part actually says Demian.

Some are actually in English, like “Why So Serious?” and “A Party Pooper” for defeating Normal Pierre 100 times/defeating Chaos Pierre, and “Hardna Matata” for defeating Hard Von Leon. Anyways yeah I won’t be translating the names because it would take ages.

They also stated that new Achievements will be added continuously. Some categories do not have Achievements yet.

The Cosmos Ring is a new ring that has 20 slots. It begins with no stats except for a -70 reduction in level requirement (it shows as a level 50 item but it really is level 120). It is untradeable and is a unique equipped item. It begins with Rare potential but it cannot be Star Forced.

If you redeem the Cosmos Ring on a Cadena, it will have an additional 5 attack/magic attack and 10 all stats for 30 days.

You can use the Cosmic Atom to scroll it, and each one will give the ring 1 all stats, 1 attack/magic attack, and 100 HP/MP. So a fully scrolled Cosmic Ring will give 20 all stats, 20 attack/magic attack, and 2000 HP/MP.

The Unity Ring gives 5 all stats, 500 HP/MP, and 10 attack/magic attack. It cannot be Star Forced but it can get potential. It is untradeable and a unique-equipped item.

However, the Unity Ring has a special effect. Based on the number of characters in the same world which are wearing Unity Rings, it will give extra stats. For each character in the same world wearing the ring, it will give an extra 5 all stats, 500 HP/MP, and 2 attack/magic attack (up to a maximum of 5 characters). So in total, it will give 30 all stats, 3000 HP/MP, and 20 attack/magic attack if you can get it on 5 different characters.
