Finally the 64-Bit client has been released to the official server! However, it did come with a few issues of lag/stuttering, which Nexon has said was caused by one of the options they added with the patch. There was a minor patch the next day which disabled the option. Overview 64-Bit Client Error Fixes 64-Bit Client To provide a better game environment, MapleStory’s client program has been converted from 32-Bit to 64-Bit. From this update onwards, MapleStory can only be run on 64-Bit operating systems. Players using 32-Bit OS will need to upgrade to a 64-Bit OS. For more information, check the [64-Bit Client Testing Advance Notice]. In the 64-Bit client, you can use the 64-Bit options. Memory-Mapped I/O (Default setting: OFF) Increases data access speed by using additional memory. Memory Usage Limit (Default setting: 50% of the PC’s memory) Limits the memory usage in units of GB. When the specified usage is exceeded, it will attempt to release unused memory. You can reduce the frequency of lag by setting the memory usage limit to be higher. When the Memory-Mapped I/O option is enabled, the memory usage limit is fixed to the maximum amount. In the 64-Bit Client, the following skill effects have been improved. (Click and open in new tab to see the increased resolutions!) Soul Eclipse Elemental Blast Zodiac Ray Jaguar Maximum Sage: Wrath of Gods Energy Burst Abyssal Recall Error Fixes Fixed an issue where the Synergy Ring’s effect when worn by multiple characters in the same world did not apply properly. Since the ver. 1.2.353 client update on September 9, 2021, for characters who had their equipped Synergy Ring status changed, the character names were not outputted on the equipped ring list. If you unequip the Synergy Ring then equipped it again, the information will be updated properly. Fixed an issue with the <Challenge! Fast Hamburger Eating Competition>’s guide text where the event duration was incorrect. Fixed an issue in the event list where the <Chu Chu Festival Shop> showed items that weren’t on sale. Fixed a typo in the Chu Chu Island/Chu Chu Food Festival map’s Master Lick NPC’s dialogue. Fixed an issue where if you were hit by the food monsters from Cheep Delivery, you could not attack those monsters. Fixed an issue where if you used an Advanced Giant Potion during Cheep Delivery’s fever time, the fever time would not end properly. Mechanic can no longer cancel Metal Armor Full Burst by right-clicking the buff icon. Fixed an issue with Mercedes where if you used Wrath of Enlil when your character was on the ground while riding Sylphidia, sometimes the client would exit. The Seed ‘[The Seed] Alicia’s Gift’ quest A notice has been added that states you will not receive rewards for any rankings achieved after the ranking settlement which takes place every Monday at 12:00 AM. 19F Fixed an issue where the NPC Fleta would move backwards then forwards again in specific locations. 36F Fixed an issue where if you hit a monster again immediately after getting the right answer, it would be considered the wrong answer. Fixed an issue where sometimes the stage would be cleared without taking the quiz. 48F Fixed an error where the NPC Fleta’s movement speed was faster than before. Additional Notice About Using the 64-Bit Client After the patch, there was an issue where if you had the Memory-Mapped I/O option enabled, MapleStory would use a lot more memory and it would cause the game to lag and stutter. They released a notice telling people to turn off the option and set the memory usage limit to 50% or less of your PC’s memory to avoid this issue. KMS ver. 1.2.354 (2) Minor Update The Options > 64-Bit > Memory-Mapped I/O feature has been disabled. Developer Notes: In the 64-Bit client development process, to secure stability, we conducted tests in the test world multiple times, and in this time, we were able to confirm that the actual data loading speed was improved by using the Memory-Mapped I/O feature. However, we confirmed an increase in memory usage for some test environments using the 64-Bit client, so we continously optimized the client and in the end, the problem was solved so we decided to release it to the official server. In addition, adding the 64-Bit client to the live service could have different results than the previous tests depending on PC environments and gameplay tendencies of players. We tried to minimize any possible issues with the addition of the Memory-Mapped I/O feature by adding it as an option with the default setting of OFF. We also added the ‘Maximum memory usage’ feature as a game option to allow players to choose the optimal settings for their gameplay environment. However, the ‘Memory-Mapped I/O’ feature did not have a detailed explanation of its usage which caused confusion for players. We have temporarily disabled the ‘Memory-Mapped I/O’ feature to prevent confusion about using the 64-Bit client and to reduce game lag caused by the increased memory usage. We will try to add the same feature through future improvements. The ‘Maximum memory usage’ feature will be kept. The default value is set to 50% of the memory installed in the PC you are using, so we recommend to keep this value if possible. Depending on your PC specifications, you can increase it up to 100% which may provide a better game environment but on the other hand, it may result in a situation where the game enviroment gets worse. If you want to adjust it, you can increase or decrease the value from its default setting of 50%, and you can find the optimal game environment by testing the changes. We ask for your understanding that it would be difficult to provide more specific guidance for the optimal usage of this feature as the ‘maximum memory usage’ is affected by your PC’s specifications and game environment. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the lack of sufficient guidance on the review of various PC environments and 64-Bit client options. Source: Orange Mushroom's Blog
