On Saturday, a couple of hours after the New Age showcase finished, the test world updated with many of the game changes and system improvements mentioned there. No 6th job yet (that will start testing on June 22)! This patch will be coming to the official servers on Wednesday, along with the summer event which is actually pretty different system-wise but more on that in the next post (might be a couple days later since I just finished this one).

Director Wongki also has been making his rounds, visiting various streamers to talk and answer questions. He started with Geulja (글자네) right after the showcase! He has made some interesting statements and soft-announced various changes, so I’ll probably write up a summary sometime this week.

    Special Skill Ring Reorganization

Special skill rings can now be acquired from the following new items.

    • Green Jade Boss Ring Box (Basic): Receive a random level 1~3 ring.
    • Red Jade Boss Ring Box (Intermediate): Receive a random level 1~4 ring.
    • Black Jade Boss Ring Box (Advanced): Receive a random level 1~4 ring.
    • White Jade Boss Ring Box (Superior): Receive a random level 3~4 ring.

A new special skill ring item has been added.

    • Continuous Ring: When the Continuous Ring is equipped, there is a 120 second preparation time. After the preparation time, using an attacking skill will increase your boss damage by 35%/70%/105%/140% for 5/6/7/8 seconds. Re-activation cooldown: 12 seconds. This is not affected by cooldown resets or cooldown reduction effects.

Special skill rings are an element that increases the fun of combat by synergizing with character skills.

However, most of the current special skill rings are designed with a structure that gives a big effect for a short period of time, so their synergy with skills of a similar structure was particularly good.

Unlike the existing special skill rings, the Continuous Ring that we added in this patch is designed to give a continuous effect and to synergize with a bigger variety of skills.

With the addition of the Continuous Ring, we expect that the selection of special skill rings will be more diverse and MapleStory’s combat will be richer than before.

    Developer Notes

The item descriptions for the existing special skill rings that could be acquired from the Seed have been improved.

    Reboot World Reorganization

All monsters’ HP and experience have been changed to be the same as regular worlds.

The damage ratio based on the difference between character level and monster level has been changed to be the same as regular worlds.

When Reboot World was introduced, we set the hunting difficulty to be higher than regular worlds while also giving higher experience rewards in order to maximize the fun of character growth.

However, since then, various growth factors have been added to both regular worlds and Reboot World, and equipment growth has become easier, so the difficulty of hunting in Reboot World, especially after level 200, has become much lower than we initially intended.

As a result, when playing for the same amount of time, Reboot World was able to growfaster than regular worlds in all level ranges above level 200.

Reboot World and regular worlds clearly aim to provide different experiences. However, given the nature of MapleStory where many types of content and systems are linked to your level, we decided that it didn’t make much sense for there to be a difference in the amount of levels you could achieve in the same amount of time simply because of the difference in experience provided by the two worlds.

Therefore, by setting the HP and EXP of Reboot World’s monsters to be the same as regular worlds to remove the deviation in hunting experience (which no longer works as intended), and by setting the damage ratio based on the difference between character level and monster level to be the same, we have changed it so that Reboot World and regular worlds can experience a similar growth path.

In addition, this adjustment has been made along with decreasing experience required to level up and increasing various content experience rewards, to try and provide a similar experience to that which exists now to the maximum number of Reboot World players.

Going forward, we will continue to make steady updates with the goal of providing a unique experience between worlds so that players who are enjoying MapleStory in both worlds can enjoy the game satisfactorily.

    Resolution Support System Improvements

Newly supported resolutions have been added to the client. In the Game Options’ Resolution Settings, you can select these resolutions if they are supported by your client running environment.

    • 2560 x 1440
    • 2732 x 1536
    • 3840 x 2160

It has been improved so that while in Windowed Mode, you can now drag and drop the window borders to adjust the resolution. This feature also works on the login screen, Cash Shop, Maple Auction, and the external chat window.

Full Screen Mode has been removed. The existing hotkey to switch to Full Screen Mode ‘ALT + ENTER’ has been changed to switch to the maximum resolution supported by your current monitor and client.

In the Laboratory, the Upscaling Filter feature has been added. You can choose to sharpen or soften the game screen with the Upscaling Filter. (Easier to see the differences if you open them in a new tab)

The resolution support system is still not ready but since it needs a lot of testing in a variety of environments, we decided to apply it to the test world only just like in the previous update.

After additional testing and feedback, we will officially introduce it to players when it is ready.

Changes From Test World to Official Update ver. 1.2.378

    Growth Path Reorganization

The amount of experience required from level 210 to 299 has been decreased.

    • Level 210~219: ~19% reduction
    • Level 220~229: ~21% reduction
    • Level 230~239: ~35% reduction
    • Level 240~249: ~50% reduction
    • Level 250~259: ~55% reduction
    • Level 260~269: ~32% reduction
    • Level 270~299: ~16% reduction (Additional change in official update ver. 1.2.378)

After the test world update, we checked many players’ opinions and did additional reviews of the growth path reorganization.

When considering the growth reorganization changes being made now and additional changes being made later, we determined that some more adjustments were needed for the amount of experience required to level up from 270 and higher.

Therefore, for the entire level range at level 270 and higher, we have decreased the experience required to level up by about 16%.
